Simply because we haven’t mowed it so you’re left with long dead blades (yellow). The green new ones are coming right up but are still buried by the dead blades. The green aread in the background was mowed in the Fall, this is what it looks like with the dead yellow stuff gone :).
Mowing a field is pricy so we try to minimize it.
The stuff Nicole is removing from the garlic bed is just straw we used to protect the bulbs through the Winter.

At first I thought it was ’cause of the snow but on this pic I see green grass in the background.
